The regency of Karangasem was founded in the 17th century the Hindu Majapahit empire. At the height of it’s power the kingdom of Karangasem had conquered the neighbouring regency of Buleleng and had established principalities on the island of Lombok in the West.
The wealth and glory of the kings can still be seen in the rich palaces and temples they built around the capital city of Amlapura. Karangasem is also famous for it’s beautiful nature and scenic landscape with rice terraces, the Mount Agung volcano and pristine white sand beaches.
